This is a specialist cooperative venture offering walks of varying lengths in scenic settings, led by trained and well informed leaders.
A lot of fun for us non-walkers as well!

A glorious short break guided walking . As always HF delivers.. a choice of walks, well led, well paced, with clear information to allow an informed choice.
They can't control the weather, which was glorious, so added to the enjoyment.

For those of you who don't know HFHolidays they are a company that specialises in walking holidays for members and non-members alike. They have lots of houses throughout the country and abroad that are very similar. Larpool Hall is situated in Whitby not far from the town centre. It is a large building more like a country home than a hotel. Guests all dine together and there are planned walks during the day led by well trained and competent guides who take you on set walks in the local areas. The food was excellent, and that staff are very friendly and polite. The whole experience is a brilliant way to see at close hand the local countryside. The walks are divided between different options, Easy, Hard and Harder. The options usually determined by the length of the walk and the amount of ascent and descent in each case. A great way to meet new people, eat first class food and get out and about in the great countryside.

Ideally placed close to Whitby town centre. If you enjoy walking it's in a wonderful landscape with goodl accommodation. Larpool Hall also provides all the amenities a walker needs in our indifferent weather including a boot room. We were on a guided walking holiday with HF Holidays but the hotel is ideal for cyclists and the self guided. The food was more than adequate with attentive staff and clean rooms.

Excellent walks led by to experienced leaders. Food & accommodation all excellent too though avoid top floor rooms as water pressure is lacking.

Stayed with a group of 47 ramblers.
Single room was clean but dated on the ground floor. There were no lifts so some struggled with their suitcases.
The food was above average and served efficiently by very hard working staff.
I would stay again.

My first visit to an HF House and most enjoyable! I'm pretty sure our Walking Group will visit one of their other Houses in the future.

Staying in the first week after the easing of lockdown. The welcoming staff have developed a good response to Covid, with PPE, plenty of sanitising stations, but the afternoon tea on arrival is replaced by a packet of shortbread, okay but not a patch. Rooms are no longer serviced during the stay, which makes sense. Breakfast is good with decent portions and choice. Other meals for us were very curate's egg. Uncooked chicken one night, rice cooled too slowly in a burrito another day. The highlight though was the chef's taster menu fist and second courses and desert, main not so good. It should be mentioned that vegetables are in noticeably short supply for most evening meals.
All probably the result of centralised buying, in the HF group, it might save money but at what cost.
The packed lunches now have to be pre-ordered and offer an almost infinite choice of sandwich (extra round £1.50 each) along with a selection of extras including flapjack, brownies, bars, fruit and nibbles. Marred one day by the inadvertent substitution of cabbage for lettuce in BLTs.They always have a selection for vegetarians, vegans by arrangement.
Roll on further easing of restrictions and the return to the good old days.
Sadly it seems that central control also extended to the stocking of the bar which ran out of essentials like most tonics one of two gins and some of the beers before the third day. Walking makes you thirsty but not that thirsty.
As always the walk leaders cannot be faulted, guiding with humour and expertise.
The location is ideal with good walking from the door and excellent walks only a short drive away. Whitby offers plenty of interest,I particularly enjoyed the Jet museum, free admission and a good tearoom.

This Warren of a place makes a great base to explore Whitby and the coast from. Plenty of walks can be done without having to drive at all.

Our stay was in 1998. It is a wonderful property and Whitby is a little known historical gem that most Americans are completely unaware of. Well worth the visit.

We had wonderful weather so has been a very good place for a walking holiday in the Whitby area. I can imagine a very different place in the rain. The grand old country house has some colourful decor so looks dated in the public rooms but they are warm and reasonably comfortable. Bedrooms I believe range from perfectly adequate clean and comfortable to well equipped rooms with bathtubs. Food was a good choice and well cooked three course meal which you chose in the day before your dinner. Sandwiches are supplied with plenty of choice these you select day before. Walks were off three lengths each day ranging from appropriately 6 to 12miles. Can feel longer because of gradients. We had a lovely group so atmosphere was great.
